Operation BBQ for our Troops MW Division adopted the idea
of Senior Q into its mission for the month of October and got
the Governor of Nebraska to proclaim the month of October officially
"Senior Q" month.
Operation BBQ for our Troops MW Division is currently made up
of two competition teams (Roo B Q'n - Tom and Char Manhart and
We'll Smoke U - Scott and Jackie Burke) as well as some other
bbq fanatics (Annie and Dave Bougger).
Our first feed occurred on what turned out to be a very blustery
October day (10/26), we provided the noon meal for the Eastern
Nebraska Veterans Home in Bellevue Nebraska. 150 meals were served
to Veterans , family members and the staff of the home as a way
of saying Thank you to our aging Veterans and all those that
help and love them in their remaining life's journey.
Pork shoulder or Pulled Chicken sandwiches, baked beans, coleslaw
and various desserts were served by the board of Operation BBQ
along with some friends and their children in support of the
mission. We served and helped with meals over a 3 hour period
and met some wonderful people, many that have left their mark
on us for quite some time to come.
Later that week, another feed was held in the Valley NE VFW for
about 75 Veterans and families. The menu and the smiles continued
from earlier in the week. This time the servers were local high
school students working on service hours and school projects
to understand and appreciate the impact these men and women have
had on our lives.
Thanks to the board of Operation BBQ, friends, staff members
of both facilities and the donations of many others to make these
two events possible.
